Hi! I'm Katie, I'm 21 years old and I was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD two days ago. I just wanted to tell you this blog makes me feel better about my whole life; I identify with a lot of the memes on here, these are things that my family/friends often call 'pulling a Katie.' I'm glad to know that there is a reason I've always done these things.

Oh man, that’s definitely quite a while of living your life before you get a diagnosis. I’m glad that we can help you though. <3

i saw you're taking strattera! how do you like it? (i'm assuming it would've set in by now haha.) it was the first one my doctor prescribed me, and i'm lucky that it works amazingly for me. i still have my symptoms, but they are so much more manageable that i actually get the A's everyone kept telling me i had the potential to earn (you know, after applying myself). also i love this blog! i don't know anyone with adhd offline, so this is exciting for me!

It’s actually working wonders for me! Granted I’m still obviously an Aardvark and it doesn’t help the majority of symptoms, but I have more stamina with focusing on tasks and starting tasks, plus I’m actually a tad more comfortable organizing things when before I’d avoid it at all costs. Considering how my biggest issue with ADHD is how it’s giving me a lot of trouble to survive college, I think those’re the symptoms that really count.

I’m really glad you found us and that we can help you feel not alone. That’s what this blog is for. Good on ya for having Strattera work well for you too. :D

From my 1st appointment till diagnosis was roughly 6 month though. I'm kind of glad it took that long though because at first my therapist wanted to diagnose me as clinically depressed with all kinds of anxiety disorders as comorbidities but halfway through that investigation she realized aspergers or ADHD was a more likely fit. I'd be very uncomfortable with getting diagnosed too quickly, I'd question it I think.

I think that’s fantastic. If the procedure in general was more thorough, I think that’d definitely cut down over/misdiagnosis.

I assure you it was no trouble! Awareness of TS or any disorder/whathaveyou is always good, doesn’t hurt to spread it around. uwu And I gladly await your ADHD vlog as well!

I'm someone who's "blessed" with both ADHD and anxiety. It can be confusing and frustrating (but really both are frustrating/confusing all on their own). But as you said, there are ways to get through it day to day. A good therapist (they're hard to find but worth it) and medication if need be. I hope things work out the best for you, anon. :)

It took me months of queuing and then months of hospital unit visits to get diagnosed(public healthcare). It was very thorough and they ruled out all the other possible medical causes, disorders and such. They talked with my parents in person(I was already an adult). I felt it took a bit unnecessarily long, but during the process I did learn a lot about ADHD. To be honest, I'd feel weird if I was diagnosed in one visit, and left at that with no further information!

I kinda do wish more doctors would do this. I probably should have specified that it only took me one appointment because I stated before I already got a diagnosis from my doctor, but my doctor at the time didn’t give me any information either. :T

Here (Sweden) it takes at least three sessions to get diagnosed. One or two to go through patient history and then one or two to actually do the test(s). And if you're young they usually also want to talk to your parents (about how you were as a child etc.) before they give you a diagnosis. I think it's because they want to make sure to not give you an unnecessary, incorrect diagnosis.

Oh gosh, I had no idea. At the very least I’m glad they do it for the sake of accuracy!

There were a few people who showed interest in a TS vlog, so here we go! The face behind Tourette’s Toucan has her first video up!

“This is a blog for ADHD,” whispered the admin of ADHD Aardvark as she reblogged a vlog about TS.

I've been trying to get to a therapist for a long time for social anxiety. but after I'd been there six times they just went: We think you may have a ADD. and now I can't stop thinking about it, I had never before thought it would be possible but since they told me things have just been falling into place and it's such a relief. I haven't got a diagnose just yet and I don't want to get my hopes up because what if it turns out it's not that? then I'm back to fog and feeling awful about myself

To be honest it isn’t a surprise they’d be telling you their suspicions because anxiety and ADHD are very close neighbors and are often confused for one or the other, and in many cases people have both. Even if you don’t have ADHD though I wouldn’t let yourself take it to heart, because ADHD isn’t the only disorder that debilitates your abilities and self-esteem, yeah? Anxiety can have just as much of an impact. Whatever is affecting you, there’s going to be your own way for you to get through it day after day. <3
